On May Long Weekend ‘08, we decided to get married in August of the same year… not giving us much time to plan everything! I needed to find a photographer, and found Lisa’s Facebook group… and loved the creative flair her portfolio showcased. Of course, being a high school English teacher, I also couldn’t resist having ‘Ophelia’ Photography do my wedding photos ;)
Lisa was luckily available do shoot our wedding day, and we were impressed by her prompt responses to our phone calls and e-mails, as well as meeting her at Starbucks for a meet & greet/ brainstorm session. On our wedding morning, Lisa and her brother (Michael) arrived as expected for their 10 hour day of shooting. Both were successful at capturing intimate moments among family members and friends without being intrusive, which was great! We had 3 hours of shooting at the top of Mount Washington BEFORE the ceremony, which allowed for us to get lots of shots in a relaxed mindset (and in a beautiful setting). Lisa made sure that we still had a ’special’ first meeting all dressed up, which she captured wonderfully on film. Luckily for us… and for the Whiskey Jacks, Lisa remembered to bring Ritz crackers, which really attracted the birds. Despite the cold and the swarm of hungry bugs at the top of the mountain, Lisa and Michael got some absolutely amazing, magical shots. Afterwards, during the ceremony and reception, our two photographers continued to capture our memories on film. They even got some great pictures with extremely camera-shy family members, which is no easy task!
James & I were blown away by our wedding photos from Ophelia Photography. In addition to her original compositions, I like how she processes her pictures to make them look antique/ textured… and how we received the CD with all of the digital images on it. I couldn’t be more impressed with our pictures and experience with Lisa. She photographed me 31 weeks pregnant with twins and came back to shoot our babies when they were just two weeks old. Although she was capturing some of our most intimate moments as a family, she made the shoot fun, comfortable and professional. Lisa arrived with a structured yet flexible plan as she worked around our boys’ napping and nursing schedules (not an easy task). She’s a natural and you can tell that she really loves what she does. I am definitely looking forward to our next session!
I was honored to have Ophelia Photgraphy capture the memories of my wedding day. Their professionalism, poise, attention to detail, and creative spirit was more than I could have hoped for. I was able to meet in person to discuss a package that was individually tailored to fit my family. I was very comfortable and at ease with the photo shoot. Where do i begin.
When frantically searching for a photographer a friend had mentioned Ophelia photography. The moment i got home i checked it out on Facebook and added her. I instantly fell in love with her creative style, she was everything i was looking for:) and then some. I let her know that i was interested and asked if she would be able to do our photos Not even a week later we were chatting on the phone and i was telling her all about my day coming up.
We met up in the summer and she took our engagement photos. They were amazing, better then i ever thought they could be, we had so much fun. The day of the wedding was awesome, she was my pretty little drill Sargent, who had everyone organized and in there places, including myself. The photos she took were amazing, no words can even describe how beautiful they are.
I can’t wait to have another excuse for her to take photos for me and my husband, beacuse i know that the experience will be amazing
I booked Lisa after seeing her Ophelia pictures on Facebook. I was, and continue to be, amazed at her artistic eye and seemingly inexhaustible supply of creative ideas when looking through the lens. It was time to do our first professional family picture.
Lisa met with us on the day of the shoot and quickly put us at ease. Our two year old son responded happily to her warm smiles, encouragement, patience and silliness. We did photos in various spots in our outdoor location and ended the session feeling Lisa had taken lots of pictures from which she would choose our best.
Even so, I couldn’t have imagined how much more she would bring to our photos… whether it’s her choice of lens, the amount she zooms into the scene, the way she decides to edit a picture… I don’t really know.. but it comes out as an artistic creation! We loved our pictures and have framed them for our walls, given them as gifts to family and used them for our Christmas cards this year.
In December, we were extremely happy to do another shoot with Lisa and are once again thrilled with our photos. I know now that I am addicted. My only wish is that I had met Lisa sooner so she could have taken amazing pictures of our son when he was a baby. This lady is magic with her camera!
Lisa and Mike came and did a photo shoot with my family and I, and it was a fantastic experience. Lisa has many great ideas, and she uses props that capture the personality of each person. I feel that she captured the essence of my children, she has such an eye for the unique. Lisa really cares about the people she is photograping as well, and genuinely likes them. My children were completely comfortable with her immediately and loved the experience as well. We are looking forward to doing a spring photo shoot with her, when the weather isn’t -12 for our shoot!!
Lisa shot our engagement photos on a sunny, cool spring day in Stanley Park and they turned out absolutely beautifully. We were so happy with them - they truly reflected our personalities and natural expressions - no fake smiles! Myself and my husband can both be pretty shy people, but Lisa gave us just the right amount of direction needed to feel comfortable in front of the camera while she snapped away. The edited images were fantastic. Lisa used some really neat effects and her work is really fresh and unique. And on top of all of that, Lisa herself is a truly kind person who takes the time to get to know you so she can reflect your personality in the photos. She makes the whole experience fun with her energetic and humorous personality.
I am really looking forward to having Lisa capture some more important moments for me and my family in the future.
When deciding to pick a photographer for our wedding, I heard from a close friend that she recommended Ophelia Photography. After viewing her website I became in love with her style and how she tells a story through her photos. Her photo’s show so much emotion and character behind them that you just want to see more!
Our first meeting was our engagement photo shoot. We met up before the shoot to discuss her ideas and she really wanted to get to know who we were as a couple. Her easy going personality and fun spirit made the photo shoot so much fun and well, the photo’s speak for themselves!
Our wedding was in rainy November of last year. Lisa made sure she had a back up plan and had many ideas in case the weather turned bad! Turned out, it rained but having the plan the photo’s turned out beautiful! Lisa shot some amazing photo’s at the casino in Port Alberni!

Lisa is an amazing photographer who’s talent, creativity and eye for detail is unmatched. We hired Lisa to do newborn shots of our daughter Abigail. We didn’t know what to expect, as Abigail was only 10 days old and needed to sleep, eat, (poop too) during the photo shoot. Lisa was so patient and waited for the perfect shot of Abigail. We were so impressed with our newborn photos that we hired Lisa to do a photoshoot with Abigail and her two cousins.
Three babies, one barely walking (Grayson), one barely sitting (abby) and one teething (poor Alexandra). It was a crazy experience for us parents, but Lisa was the calm in the storm. I honestly didn’t think it was possible to get them all in one picture without someone crying, but Lisa managed it and got some awesome shots –those bubbles sure came in handy! We were able to suprise the grandparents with beautiful photos for Christmas, and my mother goes around proudly showing off the pictures and exclaiming how each of their little personalities come through in the photos. I did not hesitate, when making the HUGE decision to get married to choose Lisa as our photographer. I not only know her personally, and what a wonderful person she is, but I have also grown to love checking facebook to see what new work she has done! She makes it very comfortable to take pictures with, especially with my camera shy fiance. (trust me, that is real work!) I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to recommend her to anyone. She truly takes pride in her career.
I found Ophelia Photography when I was surfing on Craigslist one evening and her portfolio caught my eye. Every single photo had an energy and magic to it. When I read her background info and discovered she was from Port Alberni, I knew right away I had to support a local girl! Lisa was prompt and friendly with communication and within a week she was at our home to take our first family pictures with our 8.5 month old son.

I’ve been practicing photography for close to 30 years now. Most of my photography has been portraiture oriented b&w fiber based art prints, so I know good portrait photography when I see it, which is why I hired Lisa Gratton to make family portraits for us. Lisa has not only mastered the tools of her trade, but she also has incredible artistic vision and a personality to match, which is how she is able to draw out the very best in her subjects. We hired Lisa to take pictures of our one month old baby, Sophie. Who was not in the best of spirits and wouldn’t settle down for nap. She was able to come to our home with a sparkling personality that relaxed everyone. She was so patient with Sophie and also taking pictures of our “fur babies” who are also a part of our familiy. We now have wonderful pictures of both Sophie and our cats and our little family that we can cherish forever. The pictures she took are so full of colour and texture it is hard to describe at times how wonderful they really are. She was able to bring all kinds of props and provided suggestions on things we had at home to use to take picture of little girl. ‘These pictures were a wonderul gift for family members and friends who have been asking where I found such a wonderful photographer.
